In the night I saw a vision of the army of God. I was standing on the mountain next to Jesus looking down below. The army was great in number, hundreds of thousands of people marching against the hordes of hell in the desert. But what was so amazing to witness was their battle strategy. They were laughing. Everyone in the Lord’s army was laughing their hearts out. They had absolutely no fear, they were having a great time right in the middle of a battle. I saw how in this drunken joy, they pushed the enemy further and further backward as they took the land back from him. I saw how the laughter bewildered the soldiers of satan and caused much confusion in the enemy’s camp. I also saw how they couldn’t stand the sound, how they covered their ears and ran away from it. The laughter of the soldiers of righteousness was a piercing sound to their ears. I understood that the joy of the Lord was brooding over the army of God, releasing strength, resilience, and courage. What a powerful weapon. They did not have to lift a finger and the darkness fled.
Then Ezra said to them, “Go [your way], eat the rich festival food, drink the sweet drink, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be worried, for the joy of the Lord is your strength and your stronghold.”
Nehemiah 8:10 (AMP)
Then I saw how some started singing and how others started to dance. Music instruments appeared and people started to make a joyful sound. Others continued laughing, everyone was expressing their joy in a different way. The enemy could not stand it!
I remember watching an intercessor training video from Father’s Heart International Ministries. I will never forget how Warren Horak encouraged the trainees to laugh in the face of the enemy because he hates the sound of God’s children laughing, especially during their trials and tribulations. It really weakens his attacks against them if they can still find joy in the middle of a battle. Warren explained how in Psalm 23 it is written that the Lord lays a table for us before our enemies. Beloved, we can laugh and have a good time, we can feast even in the presence of our enemies.
I will also never forget hearing a story of how Heidi Baker, once came into a dangerous situation during a mission trip in Mozambique. She was faced with a group of policemen holding guns. The Spirit of God came down over her so strongly, that she started to laugh uncontrollably. When they threatened to kill her, she responded by telling them that they couldn’t, as she was dead already. Such fearlessness in the face of death! She was arrested but later escaped that night because they had forgotten to lock her cell :-).
The joy of the Lord. This is a powerful, powerful weapon. Use it today. Ask for the joy of the Lord to be poured out on you, right now in the middle of your pain.
