Open Heavens…Really?

Yes really. Take a look at these verses below.

Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” And He said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.

John 1:50‭-‬51 NKJV

When they heard these things they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed at him with their teeth. But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God, and said, “Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!” Then they cried out with a loud voice, stopped their ears, and ran at him with one accord; and they cast him out of the city and stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their clothes at the feet of a young man named Saul. And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on God and saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not charge them with this sin.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

Acts 7:54‭-‬60 NKJV

And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.”

Luke 2:9‭-‬15 NKJV

Now Jacob went out from Beersheba and went toward Haran. So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep. Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. And behold, the Lord stood above it and said: “I am the Lord God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants. Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread abroad to the west and the east, to the north and the south; and in you and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed. Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.” Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it. ” And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!

Genesis 28:10‭-‬17 NKJV

I am really glad the Holy Spirit brought these verses to my attention tonight as I was reading my Bible. Mainly because it explains something that happened to me long ago.

When I was in university I had a dream. In this dream I saw a stairway going up to heaven. I saw angels ascending and descending the stairway. Right at the top on the left of the stairway stood a mighty angel with a great book. It lay on a pedestal and was opened. Then I saw a Lamb descending in the middle of the stairway towards the earth. The lamb was bleeding and He had open wounds.

This happened almost ten years ago if my memory serves me right, in 2008. I only remember the room where I had the dream in and it was a room I was renting whilst I was doing my Masters studies. Being a very typical student, I was not living a good Christian life at this point in my life. Although I attended church regularly and considered myself a Christian, I was FAR from it.

When I woke up from that dream I thought to myself “Mhhh, that dream seems quiet familiar.” If you have ever been to Sunday school you will know about the story of Jacob’s ladder. So I picked up my Bible and I looked up the story of Jacob’s ladder. I had no idea back then about prophecy, interpreting dreams or how the Holy Spirit communicates with us. Unfortunately that dream did not put me on the narrow path. I carried on living a sinful life and made many bad decisions. I often thought about that dream throughout the years, it has stayed burned in my mind since then.

So fast-forward, a decade later and here I am writing a prophetic blog. Now I understand that that dream was my calling, I was being called to be a prophet of the Lord. If I had been in a good space in my Christian walk and had brothers and sisters around me who were full of the Holy Spirit, I am sure I would have been mentored and supported to walk out this calling already years ago. But my rebellion kept me away and there were so many strongholds over my life. The deliverance process I have been underoing since August has been hectic and quiet thorough. When the Holy Spirit cleans up His Temple, he really does a good job of it :-). God is faithful and I am here now, writing this, finally home.

I just want to encourage you, pay attention to your dreams, write down your visions and prophetic utterances. Some things only fulfill themselves years later. So yes, open-heaven experiences are possible, Jesus promised it to His disciples (see above) and I testify that it happened to me back then, even when I was living a life of sin and shame.
