I think I did.
On the 29 November 2015, the night before I was to fly to South Africa to visit family, I dreamt I was at my parent’s house. It was absolute chaos. There was some kind of war going on, every man for himself. The whole neighbourhood where I grew up was a complete war zone.
I saw faces of my immediate family: my brothers, sisters, my parents, as well as faces of extended family. I also recognised neighbours and people I had played with as a child and their parents. I knew everybody there. There was a lot of noise, shouting and screaming. People were killing each other; brother against sister, parent against child. It was crazy, you could trust no-one. I remember that most people had knives, I do not remember any guns. At one point my older brother came up against me. I stabbed him just to get away from him; he would’ve killed me otherwise. Then I ran away to the front yard of my neighbour’s house, whose house I remember from my childhood was a tavern (a pub in a township).
Then I noticed that everybody had stopped fighting each other and were now ganging up on me. They circled me and came at me with their knives, all the people I knew surrounded me; I knew every single face. They came closer to kill me, my enemies surrounded me. They wanted my blood and were united in their goal.
As they formed a circle around me, I noticed that they started to drop their weapons and took each others hands. I was amazed! They started to sing a beautiful song and as they sung, they began to transform. The circle widened and they transformed into a wide circle of mothers, mothers with children. The atmosphere completely changed. There was singing, laughter, children were playing between their mother’s legs and running around the circle. Some were sitting on their mother’s shoulders. I stood there in the middle and was just amazed.
I do believe that this was a prophetic dream showing my future ministries, but also preparing me for the warfare that will take place before I will be able to walk in my calling. This dream also reminds me a lot of Joseph’s dream:
Genesis 37: 5-10
5 Now Joseph had a dream, and he told it to his brothers; and they hated him even more. 6 So he said to them, “Please hear this dream which I have dreamed: 7 There we were, binding sheaves in the field. Then behold, my sheaf arose and also stood upright; and indeed your sheaves stood all around and bowed down to my sheaf.”
8 And his brothers said to him, “Shall you indeed reign over us? Or shall you indeed have dominion over us?” So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words.
9 Then he dreamed still another dream and told it to his brothers, and said, “Look, I have dreamed another dream. And this time, the sun, the moon, and the eleven stars bowed down to me.”
10 So he told it to his father and his brothers; and his father rebuked him and said to him, “What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall your mother and I and your brothers indeed come to bow down to the earth before you?” 11 And his brothers envied him, but his father kept the matter in mind.
Before Joseph’s dream was fulfilled, many years passed and he went through much before he was eventually the right hand man of Pharoah. He was sold as a slave by his brothers, imprisoned unjustly, forgotten by the man whose dreams he interpreted. I have no idea how he came out of all that mentally sound, but he did, and he overcame, and Pharoah gave him the keys to his Kingdom.
Some of you who know me will know that in 2014, more than a year before I had the above dream, I spent a very short period (thankfully) of my life in a women’s shelter. It was a dark time in my life, but God has seen me through. I will never forget the nights though, lying in a strange bed, my son sleeping peacefully next to me, whilst I lay there in despair, everything felt so surreal. Only God carried me through that period on his wings, and I made it out with a sound mind. Amen!
God still speaks to us today, just as He spoke to Moses in the burning bush and gave him his commission to lead the Israelites out of slavery. Through his Word, through Prophets, through dreams, through words of knowledge…God still speaks today.
What about you? Have you dreamt of your calling? Did God speak to you in the night and reveal his future plans for your life. Did he prophesy in your ear whilst you rested in the night? Would love to hear from you guys. Leave a comment below 🙂
