If you like me, are living in a country where you are free to go to church on Sunday, praise and worship God in peace, and practice your religion without being persecuted for it, you are extremely LUCKY and BLESSED. Don’t take it for granted.
Unfortunately, there are so many countries in the world where Christians are being persecuted for their faith. In Ephesians we read that we should pray at all times for all the saints. By saints, Paul was talking about other believers of Jesus Christ. The persecuted church includes these saints, Some may struggle with identifying themselves as part of a worldwide body of Christ, but our brothers and sisters are not just the group of people we see every week at church on Sunday, but rather every Christian on the face of this earth.
Ephesians 6:18 New King James Version
18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—
A prayer of supplication is where we come before God and humbly and earnestly bring our petitions and requests either for ourselves or for another party to God in prayer (see also What does supplication mean?).
Open Doors International, an organisation which serves persecuted Christians in more than 60 countries worldwide has a World Watch List, which ranks countries by the level of persecution Christians face in those countries. Please take a look at the amazing work they do, and stay informed about the saints who are spread out across the globe Open Doors persecuted Christians World Watch List. They have headquarters in many countries too for those who would not only like to support spiritually but also physically.
I have posted two videos in this blog-post about the rapidly growing church in China. Please watch for yourself and see how amazingly God is working in this country. Hundreds of thousands of Chinese people are receiving salvation despite ongoing persecution from the communist government. It is such an inspiration to see how hungry they are for God at all costs; to see how they go out, empowered by the Holy Spirit and evangelising throughout the country and to see how despite the hardships, they remain faithful to the Lord. The Lord sends them peace and joy even during those times of torture and persecution. God loves the Chinese nation, and He is reconciling them back to himself. Please pray for China.
And don’t forget, we are living in the end times. The Bible tells us that the Spirit of Anti-Christ is already here. It might not be happening in your country now, but we can expect that the persecution of Christians is going to spread more widely around the world in the coming times.
1 John 4:3 New King James Version
3 and every spirit that does not confess that[a] Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.
